ACADEMICS
At Indian Creek, children receive a well-rounded education with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math - the stepping stones to the future. Students observe the natural changes that occur during each season in the six-acre outdoor learning lab.
Students maintain vegetable, flower, and butterfly gardens, as well as a pond, wetland, and wildlife habitats. Even music and physical education are infused with STEM through creating digital music and recording and analyzing exercise data. Indian Creek’s two specialized STEM classes create areas where students can create through computer programming and robotics, and also through exploration of the objects around them. Indian Creek has devoted a Special Area class entirely to stretching the science instruction using NASA 5 E’s instructional model and tying the learning back to fiction and nonfiction literature. Students have exchanged pencils for a netbook or iPads to capture their ideas while they discover how they are connected to a larger environment.
All grade levels utilize a Core Curriculum based on Indiana State Standards, taught in all Lawrence Township Schools. The Readers and Writers Workshop approach is used in Language Arts, Balanced Math, Science, Social Studies, and Social Skills & Community Building.
VISION
Indian Creek envisions a dynamic learning environment where students are self-directed learners who process the interrelatedness of STEM components. It is the vision of Indian Creek to create an environment in which students become lifelong learners, excel in academics and citizenship, and make valuable contributions in a competitive, global community.
