Indian Creek School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math has been a champion for embracing the future of education since it was relaunched in 1986 as a Science & Technology Magnet. While times and technology have changed over the decades, Indian Creek is always on the cutting edge of what is best for our students. Now teachers are embracing STEM education with the same passion they had at our beginning.
Students at Indian Creek have a robust science curriculum in their classrooms. From learning how the eye reacts to light through the dissection of a cow's eye to understanding the principles of flight by designing and building their own model aircraft, our students are immersed in science. Besides the normal science curriculum, teachers take every moment to integrate science into their student's day, whether it is a math lesson, or in a reading unit students are always exposed to science.
Outside of the regular classroom we have devoted one of our Special Area classes entirely to stretching the STEM instruction to emphasize the engineering design process. Tying the learning back to fiction and nonfiction literature our students are stretched beyond the regular curriculum.
Even our video announcements each morning include science, whether it's a quick fact of an experiment or demonstration!

Technology at Indian Creek
Indian Creek is abuzz with technology from a full lab of iMacs, another of Windows PCs, laptop carts, to iPads students have access to cutting edge technology to enhance their learning. With a focus on Digital Citizenship through lessons developed by Common Sense Media students learn about their digital footprint and how to best present themselves in a digital world.
Students at Indian Creek also focus on learning multiple languages- programming languages that is. Starting in second grade students learn how to program computers using Scratch, and Lego WeDo. By the time they are in 6th grade they are building a programming robots using the Lego Mindstorms NXT and EV3 programming language.
Engineering at Indian Creek
We start our year off with our annual marshmallow challenge in which students in all grades work in teams to design and build the tallest tower they can to hold a marshmallow. From there student create habitats, design and build cars, airplanes, and bridges. Each grade creates engineering challenges as the students learn about various engineering careers.
Math at Indian Creek
As the teachers look at the component parts of STEM the glue that keeps it all together is mathematics. So while our classes work within the township Math curricular units teachers emphasize the connection between the subjects and the importance of a strong foundation in math as we explore Science, Technology, and Engineering.
